Kirstenbosch botanical gardens, a feast for the eye so close to Table Mountain! And a nice place for a day of relaxing.

What?
Beautifully landscaped botanical gardens. Have a picnic on the grass under one of the many trees and enjoy the beautiful view. Participate in one of the free garden tours. Or visit one of the summer concerts or the outdoor cinema.

Where?
Kirstenbosch is located just south of the center of Cape Town (see map).
Parking: There is sufficient parking space. On Sunday afternoons in summer there are concerts, it can be more difficult to find a parking space from 3 pm because of the crowd so come on time and be aware that you have to walk a short distance.

When?
The gardens are always beautiful, every season has its own beauty.

  • In the South African summer there is an open-air cinema every Wednesday, the doors are then open at 6 pm and the film starts at sunset (info / tickets:http://www.thegalileo.co.za).
  • From December to April there are concerts every Sunday (info / tickets)
  • Guided tours (free!) are available throughout the year on Mondays to Fridays at 10:00, 11:00 and 14:00 and on Saturdays only at 10:00. The tour takes about an hour and a half and a guide tells you everything about the flowers and plants in the garden, depending on the current season.

Cost
Entrance to the botanical gardens is ZAR 65 per person (in 2018).
The open-air cinema offers various tickets, from 100 ZAR (89 if you order them online) for only one ticket to 175 ZAR for a VIP ticket with premium seats, coke, chocolate and popcorn.
The summer concerts vary in price, from 135 ZAR to 205 ZAR per ticket
